When I set up my Special Election page last week, I was originally planning on only including swing districts as I normally do for legislative races. However, I've since changed my mind and am now including races in districts considered either solid red *or* solid blue according to traditional demographics & voting history.
I'm doing this for two reasons: First, because special elections are still rare enough that I can easily fit all of them onto a single fundraising page. More importantly, however, special elections often throw curveballs to conventional wisdom due to them usually having extremely low turnout rates.
I'm still including the PVI (Partisan Voter Index) lean for each one, however, so donors at least have some idea of where the district stands.
As such, In addition to the 6 races I already had listed, I'm adding 8 more, for a total of 14 between now and November 5th (I'll also add any others which come up between now and then):
- 1/23: NH HD-CO01 (R+19): Cathleen Fountain
- 1/23: NH HD-CO06 (Even): Edith Tucker
- 2/13: Congress: NY-03 (D+02): Tom Suozzi
- 2/13: GA HD-125 (R+31): Kay Turner
- 2/13: PA HD-140 (D+16): Jim Prokopiak
- 2/13: OK HD-039 (R+29): Regan Raff
- 3/05: ME HD-122 (D+49): Matt Beck
- 3/05: MA HD-WO06 (R+08): TBD (depends on 2/06 primary)
- 3/12: NH HD-RO21 (D+20): TBD (depends on 1/23 primary)
- 3/12: NH HD-ST11 (D+14): Erik Johnson
(no ActBlue account set up yet) - 3/26: AL HD-010 (D+01): Marilyn Lands
- 4/02: SC HD-109 (D+32): TBD (depends on 1/30 primary)
- 4/16: MI HD-13 (D+31): Mai Xiong
- 4/16: MI HD-25 (D+22): TBD (depends on 1/30 primary)
There are several other special legislative elections this year which I'm not including due to there either being no Democrat running at all or the election taking place on the same day as the general election (November 5th).
